Academic Host Institution
Purdue University is a public research university located in West Lafayette, Indiana and is the main campus of the Purdue University system. The university was founded in 1869 after Lafayette businessman John Purdue donated land and money to establish a college of science, technology, and agriculture in his name. The first classes were held on September 16, 1874, with six instructors and 39 students.
Purdue's College of Engineering is among the largest in the United States and includes 13 academic programs, all with high rankings. U.S. News and World Report ranks Purdue's College of Engineering in the Top 10 nationwide: number 6 for graduate programs and number 9 for undergraduate programs, with four schools ranking in the top five for undergraduate programs: Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Nuclear Engineering.
